GOD/THIEF
don't kiss the writer
he'll kill you off in the eleventh chapter
just so he can have something to mourn
don't listen to the writer
everything you say will leave a stain
everything he says will have a new face by morning
and when the day comes, when you both spill it out onto the kitchen table
you won't recognize any of it - but it won't matter because he holds the pen
don't believe the writer
he is both a god and a thief
creator and scavenger
nothing and everything belongs to him
he will hurt you, if he wants to
he will hurt you more than those who came before
because he can carve a dagger just as well as he can paint a paradise
don't fall for the writer
but if you love him, immortalize him on paper
use only the finest words
crown him with a title that takes his breath away
number the pages so he can keep track
of how many paragraphs you gave him
when you leave him
water the plants one last time
swallow your speeches and your spite
close the door gently
let the ugly words run back down your throat
don't take anything, dont say anything
do not utter a single sound
when you leave- leave him with silence
nothing can haunt him more than the absence of the only thing he lives for.
