BLOODBUZZ
Trying to grow up fast
we pick out the teeth of our girlhood
string them around our necks
I don't own a single cavity
sugar never stuck
they still won't let us into the party
the red on our chests will scare the boys away.
wander turns to hunt
girls on bloodbuzz
eyes so dark i almost fall into them
girls with dreams too heavy for their necks
courage thick enough to braid medusa's hair.
half-glowing and high
we prool over streets that could swallow us whole
scraping the change from a stranger's side
pocketing the stares and loosing our way
beyond the map of faces
running to where my thoughts go
when they want to be alone
they're going to lock up in the sky, someone says
so we climb above the smoke
I've seen a thousand sunsets and none of them have saved me
not even the ones i set on fire myself
but if they bury freedom tonight
i don't want to witness it alone
we write each other's names
on the bites hanging from our necks
and it isn't the smoldering sun that warms me
it isn't the holy of the gold that saves me
tooth and bone and blood and flesh no longer matter
beneath a heady dusk
we simmer to stardust
if our truth dies at midnight
the dawn will mourn us
because there is nothing to be found
beneath tomorrow's skies
